Things to Remember as a Stuyvesant HS Student in Manhattan
Four years in the Tribeca area: here are some things I’ve learned.
Tribeca is one of those neighborhoods that is often overlooked, because it’s in Lower Manhattan, so it’s historically pretty underrated. But this is where Wall Street is, where the Oculus is, and so many more landmarks that make New York City what New York City is. And I, as an alum of Stuyvesant High School spent four years in this neighborhood and got to know it really well. It’s certainly changed a lot since I went over 3 years ago now, so some places might be different, but I picked up a couple swanky spots that I’ll continue to cherish going forward.
If you’re in the area, or if you’re a Stuyvesant High School student, here are some places to check out:
125 Chambers St. New York, NY 10007
This used to be a Pret a Manger, but nonetheless, the space that this place offers makes for a great study spot. I remember sitting here waiting to go into the school to take my finals during finals and regents week, and I would usually buy a coffee and just wait before my exams. This spot boasts lovely and comfortable seating that makes you feel like you left Manhattan for a few hours. It is next to Starbucks as well so if you’re not a huge fan of the drinks they offer at sweetgreen, you can swing by Starbucks to grab a drink and have a seat in sweetgreen afterwards. It’s also a great space to meet up with friends, catch up, hold meetings, or discuss projects.
146 Chambers St. New York, NY 10007
All hail the famous Cream Cheese and Lox bagel. Here you can find tons of options for bagels, the perfect pick-me-up after those long train rides to get to Chambers Street. Though overpriced, they aren’t skimping on the quality because the fish is always super fresh. Zucker’s is a neighborhood favorite and the portion sizes are pretty good for Lower Manhattan!
Hudson River Greenway & Tribeca Skatepark
100 N Moore Street, New York, NY 10013
The track team would always run track along this trail, but it was also a great place to have walks. Boasting a fantastic view, there are also benches and places where you can sit to have lunch or have a conversation with friends. The breeze makes you feel fresh and ready to take on the rest of your day. It’s right near the skatepark, and anybody can enjoy the skatepark, even if you’re not a professional skater! The views are really lovely especially during sunset!
near The U.S. Transportation Department at 1 Bowling Green, New York, NY 10004
This is one of those places I remember playing frisbee at and having picnics with friends. There are very little things in this world that are more relaxing than seeing a big plot of just green grass. Holding picnics, getting to know people, exercising, and just overall being in the sun was such a great place to go during lunch hour to relax and enjoy the good weather with friends. This plot of grass also overlooks the water, so there are gorgeous views all around.
