1) What is Fair Fares?
“Fair Fares NYC is a City program created by Mayor Bill de Blasio, City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, and members of the City Council to help low-income New Yorkers with their transportation costs. With the Fair Fares NYC discount, participating New York City residents can receive a 50% discount on the either subway and eligible bus fares, or Access-A-Ride.”
2) How to apply for Fair Fares?
a) Go to https://www1.nyc.gov/site/fairfares/index.page check your eligibility. Instructions are posted here. Started your application:
b) Gather all necessary documents, identification, proof of residency, and tax forms
c) After completion of the application, you will have to wait for one to three months for your metro card to arrive
d) If you need to request a replacement card because your card is damaged or not working or require an immediate refund on an expired card that has money left on the card, send your card to:
